I only had the second option checked, but unchecking it resolved the issue. So far, the 4 fingers up gesture is the most reliable way to restore the cursor, but that it vanishes at all is maddening. Second, you cant capture normal screen shots using traditional methods that display the larger cursor, taking a regular screenshot will continue to show the cursor rendered as the default size.
